Far from the more developed Bahamian Islands lie the out-islands. Remote….unspoiled…..and just barely becoming discovered by travelers who wish to separate themselves from the crowded hotels and resorts featuring everything and anything to do. From “drink ‘til you drop”boat
cruises, to parasailing, to discos, gambling and nightlife, these
places have it all for those desiring constant stimulation.
We at The Bahamian Village know there are folks who wish to escape to more remote environs….The Way The Bahamas Used To Be! Endless miles of pink/white beaches where viewing another human is still a rare sight….Awaking early in your beachfront bungalow, teased by the brilliant hues of colour trickling through the windows as the sun rises over the ridge across the bay. Seducing you to get up early and brew fresh coffee, hastening to your front-row seat on the porch in your comfy wicker chair, as the gentle waves of the Caribbean side of the island caresses the beach but a few feet away. A new day is about to begin…..pondering the options to do something or do nothing, floats dreamily through your mind….
On Long Island you will find a gentle, kind, sincere people. They have a philosophy of life we can all learn from. They enjoy the simple pleasures. Material things matter not. Friendship, family, being there for one another, and enjoying the bounty of the sea is what matters. Walking along the one main highway, it is typical for a car to stop and ask if you wish a ride to your destination. Most visitors will be amazed at the fact most people wave as their car approaches yours, often accompanied by a smile. You will not find panhandlers, nor people on the streets peddling their wares, so typical of the other overly-developed “touristy” islands. Riding scooters or bicycles is an excellent and perfect mode of travel, since the roads are hardly cluttered with automobiles. After all, there are only about 3,200 inhabitants on this 90 mile long paradise called, Long Island. |
